Difference Between Papaya and Watermelon

Papaya tends to be richer in minerals and vitamins than watermelon. Papaya contains six times more vitamins C and E and two times more calcium than watermelon. Watermelon, on its own, contains a lot of vitamin B2, zinc, less sodium, less saturated fat, and a lot of sugar than papayas.

Watermelon and papayas are very sweet fruits that are good for the body. It is very difficult to get confused externally as watermelon is larger, up to 25cm in diameter, and has a dark green colour with a smooth rind. Papaya is deep yellow or sometimes orange and weighs about 15 to 45cm.

What is Watermelon?

Watermelon is a member of the Cucurbitaceae family. It is a flowering plant with five species: seedless, orange, mini, yellow, and seeded. Watermelon is usually consumed raw or used in the preparation of juices and fruit salad. Watermelon is used in the preparation of watermelon wine.

What is Papaya?

Papaya belongs to the Carica genus family. The origins of the tropics of America and Mexico are of 14 different types, of which two are commonly grown, that is, the red papaya and the yellow papaya. Just like watermelon, ripe papaya is usually consumed raw. The skin is often peeled, and the seeds are removed before eating it. The unripe papaya, which has a green colour, is used in cooking. The young fresh leaves of papaya are eaten as spinach.

Difference Between Papaya and Watermelon

Watermelon and papaya are mostly made up of water, although watermelon contains more water than papaya. Watermelon contains a lot of protein and less sugar, while papaya is high in protein, fibre, and carbohydrates. They both have the same amount of phosphorus, iron, and copper. Both fruits do not contain any cholesterol. Papaya has more vitamin K, C, and E than watermelon. Watermelon on its side contains a high quantity of vitamins B1, B5, and B6 than the kiwi fruit watermelon and papaya have no presence of vitamin B12 and vitamin D. However, papaya also has an increased quantity of minerals than watermelon.

Watermelon is also used in different kinds of meals because of its fewer calories, water content, and increased levels of vitamins. Lycopene particularly assists in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. Papaya has a high quantity of antioxidants and phenolic compounds, which helps to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Vitamins A and C in papaya are essential for skin and hair well-being. Vitamin A assists in forming and repairing the skin cells, while vitamin C helps to create collagen, which helps to make the skin supple and the hair strong. To people who lack vitamin A, their skin looks flaky and dry. Papaya contains two essential enzymes, chymopapain and papain, that break down protein.
