In 2013, when competing in the World Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, she tested positive for the prohibited masking chemical furosemide, which resulted in her receiving a two-year suspension from the competition. Her world record lift of 125 kilogrammes was also disqualified, and she was stripped of the gold medal she won in the 79 kilogramme weight class of the competition.
At the Summer Paralympics in 2012, Folashade competed in the women’s 75 kilogramme division. She not only won a silver medal, but she also set a new world record for her weight class. “How we ended up as couples is still a funny thing to me. We always met at the National Competition. She represented Pleatu State while I represented Edo State. I was friendly with all the ladies there, so she was equally my friend. During the 2011 National Competition, I decided to engage her in a conversation that was interrupted by a very long call. When she was back, I brought up the topic of her being my girlfriend, but she laughed over it. That didn’t stop me either. When she broke the news to me that she was pregnant, I was happy because I wanted her to be my wife. We got married after the Competition in London.
