Who is Funminiyi Afuye?
Funminiyi Afuye was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and was also a lawyer. He served as the commissioner of the Ekiti State Ministry of Information and twice served as a member of the Ekiti State Assembly from Ikere constituency I. He belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently in power.
Between the years of 2007 and 2011, Funminiyi Afuye served as a member of the third assembly. During Governor Kayode Fayemi’s tenure (2011-2014), he served as a Commissioner for the Ekiti State Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Integration and Intergovernmental Affairs. He was re-elected in the sixth session, and on June 6, 2019, he took over as speaker of the Ekiti State Assembly.
Funminiyi Afuye passed away on October 19, 2022 at the Ekiti State University Teachong Hospital in Ado Ekiti. He had suffered a heart arrest and was being treated there for his condition at the time of his passing. He died at the age of 66.

During the tenure of Governor Kayode Fayemi from 2011 to 2014, Funminiyi Afuye was appointed to the position of Commissioner for two distinct ministries, namely the Ministry of Information for the State of Ekiti and the Ministry of Integration and Intergovernmental Affairs. He ran on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in order to be elected as the representative for Ikere Constituency 1 in the House of Assembly of the state of Ekiti.
