The Nigerian freestyle wrestler Blessing Oborududu born on 12 March 1989 in Gbanranu, is currently ranked as the world’s number two woman wrestler and the first to win an Olympic Medal. Oburududu is also a ten-time African Champion from 2010 to 2022.

Oburududu has been ambitious about being a wrestler. It was her childhood dream.
She, too, had the normal Nigerian parents’ obstacles. In her case, her parents believed wrestling was boys. she is from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.

Blessing Oborududu won the women’s middleweight bronze medal at the 2014 commonwealth Games by defeating Chloe Spiteri. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Blessing participated in the Women’s Middleweight Competition but lost in the second round to her opponent Soronzonboldyn Batlsetseg.
In 2017, she won a gold medal in the Women’s 63kg category at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games. She got through the 2021 African and Oceania Wrestling Olympics Qualifications Tournament to represent Nigeria at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. In the 2021 Poland Open that took Place in Warsaw, Poland, she won the Silver Medal.
In August 2021, Blessing Oborodudu was able to bag the Silver Medal in the Women Freestyle 68kg after losing to her American Opponent Tamyra Mensah-Stockl with (4-1) points at the 2020 summer Olympics. This made her the first Nigerian to win an Olympic Medal in the history of wrestling.
In Birmingham, she won gold in the women’s 68kg wrestling event to repeat as champion at the Commonwealth Games.
Blessing Oborududu equally won Nigeria’s first Silver Medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
